West Hancock Building Trades Class Builds Sheds


The 16 by 16 by 13 foot shed was built on Tlach’s farm near Duncan. “It’s one of the bigger and nicer ones we’ve done,” Francis said. The building trades students usually build two to three sheds a year. The sheds are made-to-order and sold to area customers. Francis was impressed with the work the students put into completing the larger shed for Tlach’s farm. The students measured the site and then came back to the West Hancock shop to build the walls and rafters.

Deputies were flagged down by a homeowner who had just fired his handgun at someone who had broken into his house while his family was sleeping. During the investigation citizens from the Mission and Rancho Del Sol Mobilehome Parks were reporting a subject who was seen trying to break into other homes. Deputies quickly responded and were able to confine the subject in a two-block area. The deputies began an extensive search on foot for over three hours, clearing storage sheds and vacant residences door to door. Deputies continued to receive updates from citizens and closed in on the suspect. Deputies located the suspect, who was identified as Steven Murphy of Yucaipa and currently on felony probation, hiding in an occupied residence.

Sheriff Leon Lott says Laury turned himself in to Richland County Sheriff’s Department investigators on Thursday at 5 a.m. Richland County investigators say they received information from the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a wrecker that was being used to steal vehicles, a Ford F-350 was identified to be stolen out of Sylvania, Georgia. Lott said the wrecker was traced back to Richland County and they were able to connect Laury to the Ford F-350 as it was registered to him. In reality investigators say Laury had the stolen Ford F-350 truck registration changed from a 2015 to a 2008 and changed the ownership of the stolen vehicle to his name. Investigators obtained a search warrant for Laury’s residence, and found additional stolen items with an estimated total value of $150,000 inside three storage sheds; three zero turn mowers, a motorcycle and three utility trailers Deputies are still investigating and more charges may be coming. Laury has been transported to the Alvin S.
