Crews evacuated the nearby residences as the wind was blowing the fire in their direction. Meek said their priority was to “get ahead of the it,” so that they could prevent damage to any residences. Meek said that the area had previous been a junk yard, so there were tires, cars and other “junk” items that were burning, as well as the three storage sheds which were producing a lot of sparks. There were also about six trees that had to be cut down because they were burning through the center. Meeks said he wasn’t sure exactly how big the fire was, but that it was a very fast moving fire. The cause is still unknown, and as of the time Meeks spoke with media, he had not spoken with investigators yet. The initial call went out at 2:47 p.m., and crews were beginning to pack up around 5:30 p.m.

The fire was reported about 12.55pm. It was contained to the storage shed, located on Bridge St. 1PM: Emergency services are responding to reports of a structure fire in Oakey west of Toowoomba.

Stanton school shed fire probe continues – KMAland.com: News

Dr. Chris Herrick reported to KMA news that a storage shed on the north side of the Stanton football field caught fire and burned to the ground. Not only was the building destroyed, but all the contents inside the 20 by 30 shed.

Firefighters extinguish fire in Oakey storage shed | Toowoomba Chronicle

Firefighters responded to the fire at one of the school’s storage sheds on the north side of the school’s football field at around 3 a.m. Sunday. Stanton School Superintendent Dr. Chris Herrick tells KMA News the fire destroyed the shed and its contents, including mowing and fertilizing equipment, concession stand equipment, and baseball and softball equipment, plus city Little League materials. The cause of the fire is undetermined. Herrick says a dollar figure of the damage is also undetermined–school officials were still conducting an inventory of the materials lost Monday.
