The borough received $530,000 in donations to refurbish the park and Carpenter said Lewis helped raise those donations. “He and Jay Armold went to the business people and raised about $250,000 for the park, and he did a lot of other leg work for the borough,” Carpenter said. In addition to the donations, the borough received a $200,000 Community Conservation Partnership grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. Construction on the park is expected to start this spring. The award is named in honor of the Palmyra couple, now deceased, who volunteered much of their time to the Palmyra Citizens Fire Co. for many years. Nancy Kepler served as president and secretary of the fire company and president of the ladies auxiliary, while her husband served as an engineer and with the fire police.
