The incident was reported on the 1200 block of Stirewalt Road around 7:45 p.m., according to the report from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. Dustin Dale Montgomery, 24, and Joshua Wayne Sheppard, 28, are charged with felony larceny. Deputies and officers from the China Grove Police Department followed the pair in their pickup truck for several miles before pulling them over at the intersection of Kimball and Main Streets in Landis. The recovered scrap metal and welding items were valued at $3,000. Bond was set at $10,000.

A shed that caught fire at the rear of a home on North California Street on Friday afternoon set off ammunition that was stored inside, authorities said. The ammunition was set off due to the heat of the fire, according to Capt. Peter Hendrickson with the Burbank Fire Department. The call came in to the Burbank Fire Department at 4:59 p.m. “We went into defensive mode and applied structure protection to the house and houses next door,” Hendrickson said.

Investigators are talking with several witnesses and serving search warrants in multiple locations. They are looking for a 45-year-old man who they believe was with Mills close to the time of his death. They are calling this man a person of interest.

Blaze Leaves Storage Shed with Minor Damage | WNEP.com

The fire broke out on Fairview Road around 6:30 Friday morning. Crews said a front end loader caught fire inside the shed. The owner of the storage shed said a wiring issue may have started the blaze, but the crews on the scene have not confirmed this. The shed has light fire and smoke damage. No one was injured.
