Police: Vandal Set Fire That Destroyed School Storage Sheds

A vandal was responsible for the fire that destroyed two storage sheds outside of a local school district’s $600,000 agriculture barn, police said Thursday evening.

Defenders of Wildlife will reimburse 50 percent of costs associated with electric fencing used to protect bear attractants, with a limit of $500. The organization has helped more than 100 residents with fences in the past four years. Libby resident, Joel Chandler, had a fence installed by Annis three weeks ago.

Flames engulfed the sheds when the first crew arrived, Assistant Waco Fire Chief Patrick Kerwin said. Hewitt firefighters arrived shortly afterward to assist in battling the flames. Firefighters had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes but they didnt leave the scene until after 6 a.m., Kerwin said. Both buildings, approximately 10-by-12 feet in size, were used to store feed and hay, Kerwin said.

Peter at about 6:20 p.m. July 24. Two deputies responded and found the man, who they identified as 33-year-old Israel Eric Zegiel, walking north along the highway. Zegiel, who is from La Crosse, Wisconsin, told the deputies he was just walking through the area. So one of the deputies offered to give him a ride to Le Sueur so he could use a restroom and get something to eat.
